Blade Farming wins Compassion in World Farming award
Blade Farming, part of the ABP Food Group, has been awarded a prestigious accolade from Compassion in World Farming. As the UK’s largest beef production farm business – producing high quality and consistent beef through a group of dedicated beef farmers – the award for the Good Calf Commendation showcases Blade Farming’s commitment to the highest standards of welfare for dairy calves on its farms.
Compassion in World Farming’s Good Farm Animal Welfare Awards aim to celebrate the commitment of leading food businesses in improving farm animal welfare standards. This year’s awards were presented at the Milan Expo by chef, writer and broadcaster Allegra McEvedy, MBE. In total, 41 awards were presented, with winners including McDonalds, Jamie Oliver, Whole Foods Market and Ferrero – with almost 15 million farm animals set to benefit from this year’s higher welfare policies.
Richard Phelps, Managing Director at Blade Farming, commented: “We’re delighted to have been awarded the Good Calf Commendation at this year’s Good Farm Animal Welfare awards. We go above and beyond in ensuring the highest level of welfare for the dairy calves at our farm and its fantastic to have this hard work recognised.
“The award saw us rub shoulders with industry leaders from across the sector and we, like they, value the importance of ensuring animal welfare throughout the entire food manufacturing process. This is just one of many recent achievements for Blade Farming, so we are keen to build on this momentum and to continue to work hand in hand with farmers across the UK to ensure excellent standards across the board.”
